LLC Observes Juneteenth

Juneteenth, a holiday many are only recently discovering, celebrates the emancipation of the last U.S. slaves more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The racially disproportionate impact of COVID-19 and murders of  George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Sean Reed, Tony McDade, and many others at the hands of police and white supremacists reveal that while emancipated, black Americans are still seeking full liberation.

“It feels different this year” is a phrase that has been used a lot in 2020. Juneteenth 2020 also feels different this year. Amid international protests for racial justice, we hope that this country is finally on the path to achieving true liberation for everyone and we commit to being part of the process of getting there.

This year on Juneteenth, we hope you, like us at LLC will reflect on liberation and what we can collectively do to achieve it for all of us.
