Creating Space IX: Seize The Moment

Bookmark and Share

Reciprocity, networks, and race.  Those are some of the prime themes that emerged from this year’s Creating Space event.  A diverse group of leadership development practitioners, funders, and organizers – many of whom where attending for the first time – gathered under one roof for an inspirational 3-day learning journey.  The underlying topic of the event, seize the moment, was about discussing what it means to live in a “post-racial” society, the challenges and opportunities that come with that societal change, and the direct impacts on the leadership development field.

Three inspiring learning catalysts sparked controversial conversations that prompted participants to leave behind their assumptions and step out of their comfort zones. The open space section encouraged participants to self-organize and share/obtain knowledge across a wide range of topics, including applying new technology to the field, understanding evaluation metrics, experimenting with different approaches, and exploring the role of collective leadership. The deep conversations that were generated after the catalyzing and open space sessions proved to be equally or even more valuable. Overall, this year’s event was an extraordinary experience that solidified our own commitment to advancing the leadership development field through collaboration and shared learning.

If you missed the event, or even if you attended and want to continue building the relationships, you can check out the wiki to read and share ideas. We also invite you to join the LLC Community Network to continue developing the rich conversations that came up during the event. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Creating Space!

Still can’t get enough? Check out what some of the participants had to say:

“This was a life changing conference for me. Thank you.”

“(I enjoyed) the one-on-one and small group conversations with amazing people doing different experiments in leadership.”

“The discussion about the role of reciprocity in driving sustainable, collective change was inspiring to hear. I have repeated this story multiple times to others, and this and other insights from Creating Space have served to validate our direction and instincts.”
