Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program Vignettes | Ana & Blanca

Date of Publication: Thursday, December 13, 2012
Abstract: The Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program (MAR Leadership) was launched to unleash talent and support innovative solutions to the degradation of the Mesoamerican Reef System (MAR) as a result of unregulated coastal development, sediment, sewage, overfishing, irresponsible tourism, and broader environmental issues like global climate change. The MAR Leadership Program, in its third year of operation, is testing the hypothesis that leaders across sectors in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras can advance replicable approaches to conservation of the MAR if they are given appropriate support and develop a learning network. The Leadership Learning Community is partnering with MAR Leadership to conduct an evaluation that seeks to provide a timely opportunity to assess the program’s theory of change, determine short-term and intermediate successes, affirm what is working well, and recommend changes to maximize the impact of recruitment, skill building, and network cultivation strategies.
