What are the desired outcomes of the program?
To continue the long legacy of advancing women in medicine.
Does the program serve a specific population?
Yes : With rare exceptions, candidates must be at the associate professor level or higher and hold a faculty position at either a U.S. or Canadian medical or dental school. They must be nominated by either the Dean of their school or the CEO of their academic health center. Both the qualifications of the candidate and the commitment of her institution to support her participation in ELAM and her future career development are considered in the process. An institution may nominate up to three candidates and must be prepared to support however many are accepted.

Yes : This is a highly selective doctoral program. A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, and five years of relevant professional experience are minimum eligibility requirements. Selection will depend upon such characteristics as capacity for self-directed learning, evidence of strong academic skills and conceptual abilities, and an interest in interdisciplinary study and applied research. Applicants must demonstrate a strong potential for individual and professional growth, evidence of leadership and aspiration to lead, and an interest in being a socially engaged professional. In exceptional cases, applicants with post-baccalaureate professional degrees may apply.
