CampInteractive (CI) is a small non-profit organization that inspires underprivileged inner city youth to develop self-confidence through a unique year-round program combining nature and technology. Each summer CI students participate in a rigorous wilderness expedition while documenting their experiences using digital photography, video and journaling. Students return to the city and, with intensive technical instruction in web design, create a dynamic website capturing their outdoor experiences. During the school year CI provides ongoing outdoor adventures, community service days, technical training, and one-on-one mentoring. Through participation in CI programs, inner city teens gain a sense of accomplishment empowering them to begin taking responsibility for their futures. Through our unique combination of outdoor leadership experiences and a classroom technology programs, CampInteractive is combating the dual challenge facing many students in a dramatically under-funded school system: learning both the emotional and intellectual skill sets necessary to succeed in the 21st century workforce.
